Inspired by a lecture of the Friends of the Mapleton Nursery, I wandered into ttree with lichenhe park today to look Lichen. What are Lichen? This is the little I know but it all seems fascinating: ” A lichen is a composite organism thlichen-on-a-stickat arises from algae or cyanobacteria (or both) living among filaments of a fungus in a symbiotic relationship. The combined life form has properties that are very different from the properties of its component organisms. Lichens come in many colors, sizes, and forms. The properties are sometimes plant-like, but lichens are not plants.” There are plenty around on the trees but lichen are not harmful since they get their nutrients from moisture.
